For sale here is a very large antique circa early 20th century cast bronze seated Buddha Shakyamuni statue from Thailand. The statue is of the seated Buddha Shakyamuni with his right hand forming the Karana mudra which is to ward off evil or negativity. His left hand is flat with palm facing upwards which is characteristic of the Buddha Shakyamuni. The stylized features of the face and the general proportions are characteristic of the art of Sukhothai, a school of sculpture that developed around the Thai capital between the 13th and 15th centuries. This statue is from my personal collection, and unfortunately due to space constraints I must part with it now. I have owned it for many years, and originally purchased it from a wealthy estate in the Palm Springs area in the late 1970s to early 1980s. I was told at the time that the previous owner had owned it for many years before that, and that it was originally purchased in Southeast Asia around the 1910s to 20s. It is cast bronze, and turning it on its side you can see the residue of the casting process inside and glimmers of the bronze underneath. It stands 22" tall by 17" wide by 12" deep at the base. It weighs about 50 pounds prior to packing, and will be quite expensive to ship. There are no markings on the statue that I can see. One very similar sold at Christies in London a few years back for around 12K pounds. It is in great shape with no damage or even much wear except on the bottom edges as shown in my photos - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
