For sale here is a SUPERB vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver and carved golden sheen obsidian Mexican modernist Aztec Princess pin pendant by artist/sculptor/silversmith Felipe Martinez for his shop Piedra Y Plata in Taxco. An exceptional and outstanding design that is very rare (perhaps even one of a kind as I've only seen one other and that one was slightly different and in a different stone), and a showcase for the marriage of stone and silver that is the signature of Piedra Y Plata in Taxco! Martinez studied sculpture in his early days before working with Hubert Harmon in the 1940s, and opened his own workshop Piedra Y Plata (Stone & Silver) in Taxco in the 1950s. Measures 2-3/4" tall by 2" wide by 3/4" deep, and weighs 1.8 ounce or roughly 55 grams total. Marked at back as shown with the mark for his shop, "Piedra Y Plata", also "Sterling Taxco Mexico" and the design number "111". As I noted above, I have only seen one other of this design which was actually a bit different too, and that one was with a different stone 'face'. I prefer this version as the obsidian is incredibly beautiful, and was more highly regarded in Taxco at the time by the artists and lapidaries in the area. This pin/pendant can be worn as either a pin, or as a pendant by adding a chain or fabric cord, or perhaps even a slender gauge wire neckring if you prefer. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
