For sale here is a BIG pair of vintage 1950s 60s handmade mixed metal sterling and copper Mexican modernist triangular crosshatch design earrings by Stella Popowski (1931-2008) in Taxco. Popowski was a jewish emigre from Poland who fled from the Nazis in Europe by moving to Cuba in the 1940s, and then to Mexico in the 1950s. She lived and worked in Taxco in the 1950s to early 1960s and designed jewelry for Los Castillo, Antonio Pineda, and later for herself. She was not a silversmith, so she designed the jewelry but had it made by a number of Mexican silversmiths whose marks can be found on her jewelry. In the mid-1960s she moved to Southern California living in Newport Beach and later in the San Diego area where she concentrated on her painting and design projects. Each earring measures 1-3/8" wide by 7/8" tall, and the pair weigh a total of 0.5 ounce or about 15 grams. Marked at back as shown, "Popowski Sterling 925" with Eagle 20 and additional silversmith mark. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
