For sale here is a fine vintage 1950s 60s handmade sterling silver brass black resin and green stone inlay Mexican modernist cross pendant by Stella Popowski (1931-2008) in Taxco. Popowski was a jewish emigre from Poland who fled from the Nazis in Europe by moving to Cuba in the 1940s, and then to Mexico in the 1950s. She lived and worked in Taxco in the 1950s to early 1960s and designed jewelry for Los Castillo, Antonio Pineda, and later for herself. She was not a silversmith, so she designed the jewelry but had it made by a number of Mexican silversmiths. In the mid-1960s she moved to Southern California living in Newport Beach and later in the San Diego area where she concentrated on her painting and design projects. This lovely cross measures just under 2-3/8" tall by 1-1/2" wide, and weighs 12.1 grams total. Marked at back as shown, "Popowski Sterling" with Eagle 23 and additional silversmith marks. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and some tarnish in spots as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
