For sale here is a RARE and sculptural vintage 1950s Pedro Castillo Taxco handmade sterling silver and obsidian Mexican modernist pendant on neckring necklace. Designed and made by Castillo circa 1950-55 for Tane Mexico City, the Tiffany of Mexico. Like Tiffany’s, Tane is a high-end luxury store, and they often hired independent designers to create unique pieces for their jewelry gallery. Likely a one of a kind unique piece perhaps commissioned for a special customer.
Here's a short bio of Pedro Castillo from Hougart:

Pedro Castillo worked for William Spratling at Taller de Las Delicias in the 1930's and was a maestro with Héctor Aguilar at Taller Borda beginning about 1939. At some point he also designed jewelry for Rafael Meléndez. His work is usually numbered. Castillo started his own taller in the 1940s. He produced a wide range of quality jewelry. Pedro Castillo is also known for his flatware, much of which was sold through Rancho Alegre. Some of Castillo's latest work is also marked for Rubi Ramírez. Marks: PC; PC (conjoined). Eagle number: 1, 2, 3, 120

A large and impressive pendant measuring 2-5/8” across by 1-3/4” tall by 1/4” thick, and hangs on the original/integral 15” wearable neckring which can of course be worn open to accommodate larger neck sizes if needed. The pendant could also be fitted to another neckring by a silversmith if you prefer, or even have a bale added so it can worn on a chain or cord as an alternative to wearing it solely on the neckring. Marked at back as shown with PC (conjoined) mark for Pedro Castillo, “Sterling” and Eagle 3. Also marked “Tane Mexico”. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
