For sale here is a BIG vintage 1950s 60s handmade mixed metals sterling brass black onyx and turquoise Mexican modernist Cat brooch by Miguel Garcia Martinez of Taxco. Martinez began his design career working for Emma Melendez in the early 1950s before becoming the principal designer for Rancho Alegre. He also designed for himself, and had his work produced by a number of different silversmiths in Taxco. This is one of those latter pieces that he did on his own, and it is done in the then very popular metales casados (married metals) metalworking technique with black onyx and turquoise inlay. This brooch measures 2-1/2" long by 1" wide, and weighs 16.6 grams total. Marked at back as shown, "Taxco 925 Miguel 020". Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
