For sale here is an ICONIC vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver sculptural Mexican modernist hinged-collar necklace by maestro Sigi Pineda (1929-2018) of Taxco. One of Sigi's most recognizable mid century designs, this necklace ranks at the top in both design and craftsmanship! A younger cousin of Antonio Pineda, Sigi started as an apprentice in the Los Castillo workshop in the 1940s in his early teens, and later worked for Margot (de Taxco) as her shop foreman before opening his own shop in 1952 in Taxco. His jewelry designs were heavily influenced by the international modernist movement of the time including modernist jewelry designers in the US and Europe. I met Sigi a few times in the 1990s and early 2000's, and he was a wonderful very friendly and very generous person. One of the things I remember most about Sigi is that he was not just a jewelry designer, his drawings for his designs were artworks themselves! Measures just over 1" wide at front, will fit from 15" to 16" neck easily or larger, and weighs a super hefty 115 grams total. Marked as shown in photos with distinctive "Sigi Tasco" maker mark, also "Sterling Hecho en Mexico" plus Eagle 2 and a design number that I can't make out. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
