For sale here is a SUPERB vintage 1950s 60s Chinese handmade 14K gold and carved angel-skin coral Old Bearded Man Longevity pendant from Hong Kong. Very intricate and life-like carving! The carving is likely of Zhang Guo, better known as Zhang Guolao, a Chinese mythological figure and one of the Eight Immortals in the Taoist pantheon. Among the Eight Immortals, Zhang Guolao, Zhongli Quan and Lü Yan were real historical figures. His existence is said to have begun around the middle or end of the 7th century, and ended approximately in the middle of the 8th. The epithet "Lao" added at the end of his name means "old". His image is often used in the decorative arts as an auspicious symbol to represent longevity, and the theory is that wearing such a symbol may promote longevity in the wearer. Measures 1-5/8" long by 1/2" wide by 3/8" deep, and weighs 6.5 grams total. The gold bail at top is marked "14K" for 14K solid gold. Excellent vintage condition with just a couple natural defects (pinpoint holes) to the coral but these are original and not damage as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
