For sale here is a fine modernist 1950s 60s original impasto oil painting on artist board of two robed figures in what looks to be a desert environment by California artist Mary Anna Lehman (b.1920). A striking and quite large original painting by a listed California artist! Lehman studied at UCLA, the Otis Art Institute, was a graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute, and lived and worked in southern California in the Palos Verdes area for her entire career. She was a member of the Los Angeles Art Association, the Palos Verdes Art Association, the Laguna Beach Art Association, and the Laguna Beach Festival of Art. She painted in oil in a heavy impasto style that has depth and texture. This painting is a good example of her use of the impasto technique in oil painting. I've tried to give close-up photos to show the depth of the paint in areas. Signed in the painting, "Lehman" at bottom front as shown. The outside edges of the frame measure 27" by 33", and the actual painting measures 18" by 24". The painting on artist board is somewhat loose in the original frame and could use a couple additional tacks at back to hold it in place firmly. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear to the frame and matte though the artwork has no damage or visible wear that I can see - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
