For sale here is a RARE vintage 1950s 60s handmade mixed metals sterling silver brass black onyx and turquoise Mexican modernist Carousel or Merry Go Round design brooch pin by maestro Tono of Taxco, and from his early 'piedra negra' (black stone) line of jewelry. This is a charming example from early in his career, and done in the metales casados technique aka married metals in sterling silver brass and with black onyx and turquoise stones. The metales casados technique was among the most difficult metalworking techniques in use in Taxco at the time, and only a few of the most talented and competent metalsmiths were capable of it. In addition, it took a great deal more time to produce an item in metales casados, and thus was necessarily more expensive for the customer. This fine example measures 1-3/4" by 1-3/4" and weighs 19.2 grams total. Marked at back as shown, "Tono Piedra Negra Hecho en Mexico T131" with the number, T131, being the design number. Also marked "Sterling Taxco 925 AC". Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and some tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
