For sale here is a RARE and superb vintage 1940s 50s handmade brass and rock crystal quartz 'Trapped Ball' necklace by the maestro of modernism Art Smith of New York City. An early example with the mysterious rock crystal quartz! Art Smith was a titan of the mid century modernist studio jewelry movement, and his jewelry is much sought after and prized by collectors! See my last photo for a short biography of the artist. I will be including with purchase a copy of the catalog "From the Village to Vogue: The Modernist Jewelry of Art Smith" from the eponymous exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum in 2009. (These catalogs are often offered for sale online for $100+.) Measures 4-1/4" across inside diameter by 5" from front to back which translates roughly to a 14" neck size and which can be opened up slightly by a professional if desired. Weighs 38.4 grams total.
