For sale here is a RARE vintage 1960s 70s handmade mixed metals and black onyx Mexican geometric modernist belt buckle designed by Erika Hult de Corral in Mexico. Corral studied at the Parsons School of Design in Paris before coming to Taxco where she designed for both Enrique Ledesma and Sigi Pineda. She opened her own shop in Puerto Vallarta in 1966. This buckle is an early design for her own shop, and as it does not have a design number I believe it to be a one of a kind custom-made piece. According to Bille Hougart, her "pieces are usually marked with a design or inventory number". A complex design in mixed metals (gilt brass and silver/metal) and irregular black onyx cabochons, this buckle makes a statement! Measures 2-1/2" by 1-7/8", and weighs a hefty 56.3 grams total. Marked at back, "Ric Mexico Laton". The last mark "Laton" could refer to the belt buckle being primarily made of brass, or it could indicate that the buckle was sold thru the retailer "Laton" in Taxco. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and some spots of tarnish to the metal as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
