For sale here is a SCULPTURAL vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver and Hawkeye quartz Mexican modernist bracelet by maestro Felipe Martinez of Taxco. Blue Hawkeye quartz (which is the original color of Tigereye quartz which only turns golden in the earth in the presence of iron) is a rarely used stone in Taxco, and the stones in this bracelet are outstanding in both color and quality! A rare and exceptional design by one of the greats of mid century Taxco! Sculptural design trapezoidal links that taper smaller from side to side and alternate with trapezoidal stones that taper smaller in the opposite direction. In addition, the sterling links are concave while the stones are convex which creates a series of peaks and valleys around the wrist! Martinez studied sculpture in his early days before working with Hubert Harmon in the 1940s, and opened his own workshop Piedra Y Plata (Stone & Silver) in Taxco in the 1950s. The bracelet is 1" wide and fits up to 6-1/2" wrist comfortably. Weighs a hefty 84.7 grams total. The stones are just under 1" wide, and taper from side to side from 3/4" to 1/2". The bracelet is marked inside as shown, "Piedra Y Plata Martinez Sterling Taxco", early design number "101", and Eagle 3. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
