For sale here is a HUGE and quite rare vintage 1950s 60s handmade resin metal and wood modernist brutalist sculpture by Jaru of California. Jaru was founded by Jack and Ruth Hirsh in Culver City, California in 1950, and they mostly sold the work of local artists and sculptors, but also designed their own pieces as well. They were in business until 1968 when they sold the firm. The new owners were mostly importers of mass produced foreign wares, and the later items from Jaru after about 1970 are much less desirable as a consequence. This outstanding and quite large sculpture is from their early period and is entirely handmade with a metal frame that has had a resin-like material dabbed over it then painted with an aged bronze effect, and is on a metal base atop a larger solid wood base. There are several Jaru labels and stickers at the bottom as shown in my photos. Excellent vintage condition with some slight signs of wear mostly on the base, but otherwise intact and in great shape as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
