For sale here is an ORIGINAL dated 1983 acrylic on board East Village Pop Art Surrealist painting by world-famous American artist John Patrick O'Brien (1951-2004) titled "U-Dog-It". A fantastical and humorous work depicting huge dog-headed monsters roaming the streets of an urban landscape and eating naked women whole while their shadows cast on the walls drip blood! This small painting is very much in the style of the East Village art scene of the 1980s that spawned international artists like Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf and Rodney Allen Greenblat! An early work by this artist from his time in New York, and his days studying at the Art Students League of New York. For a biography of the artist and some of his latter works, see the eponymous website. Though the artist went on to become famous for a very different style of Neo-Impressionist art, this is a quirky early work showing his involvement in an important moment in American art. This painting measures 18" by 14" by 3/4" deep, and is painted using acrylic paint on artist board. The painting is meant to be hung without any frame as it is shown in my pictures. The title is given on the front of the painting as shown, "U-Dog-It", and on the original gallery tag at back that gives the artist name, the title, and the date of the painting. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear to the outside edges of the painting as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
