For sale here is a HUGE and superb vintage 1950s 60s handmade mixed metals sterling brass black onyx and turquoise Mexican modernist Tribal Chieftain design brooch pin pendant by maestro Tono of Taxco, and from his early 'piedra negra' (black stone) line of jewelry. Probably the most elaborate and complex design EVER by Tono! This chieftain is adorned with an amazing married metals and stone-inlaid head-dress as well as earrings that can move and a necklace set with a small turquoise stone at center! Measures 3-1/2" by 2-1/8", and weighs a super hefty 48.8 grams total. Marked at back as shown, "Tono Cecilia Piedra Negra Hecho en Mexico", design number "T133", and "Sterling 925 Taxco" in a circle around the initials "AC". The "Cecilia" mark was for a retail outlet through which Tono sometimes sold his jewelry. (I've seen this brooch both with and without the Cecilia mark.) Excellent vintage condition with fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
