For sale here is a RARE vintage 1950s sterling silver and silver-sheen obsidian Mexican modernist bracelet by Felipe Martinez of Piedra Y Plata in Taxco. Truly a work of art and feels smooth as silk on the wrist! Alternating horizontal and vertical-oriented rectangular obsidian stones set flush with the silver mounts make this bracelet a symphony in geometric modernism! Martinez trained as a sculptor, and worked for Hubert Harmon in the mid-1940s prior to opening his own workshop Piedra Y Plata (Stone and Silver) in Taxco in 1950. He's known for his seamless and sculptural combination of silver with stone to produce exceptional modernist design in jewelry. This bracelet is a great example of the best of his work! Measures 6-1/2" wearable by 7/8" wide and weighs a super hefty 73.8 grams total. Marked as shown, "Piedra Y Plata Martinez Sterling Taxco" design number 176, and Eagle 3. There is some natural variation in the stones which is as original not damage or wear. There are loops for a safety chain which was removed but easily added back by a silversmith if you prefer although the clasp is tight. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish in spots as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
