For sale here is a RARE and large pair of vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver and stone inlay Mexican modernist abstract earrings by Stella Popowski of Mexico. An outstanding and rare design! Popowski was a jewish emigre from Poland who fled the Nazis in Europe by moving to Cuba in the 1940s, and then to Mexico in the 1950s. She lived and worked in Taxco in the 1950s to early 1960s and designed jewelry for Los Castillo, Antonio Pineda, and later opened her own studio in Taxco. She was not a silversmith, so she designed the jewelry but had it made by a number of silversmiths in Taxco. In the mid-1960s she moved to California where she lived in Newport Beach while concentrating on painting and design projects. Measure 1" diameter, and the pair weigh 12.8 grams total. Marked at backs as shown, "Popowski Sterling Hecho en Mexico", Eagle 20, and additional silversmith marks "HT 925". Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
