For sale here is a RARE vintage 1952 original brass and wood modernist "Reminder Bird" kinetic modernist table-top/desk sculpture by Bay area artist-jeweler Milton Cavagnaro (1913-1993 USA). The sculpture and jewelry of Milton Cavagnaro was featured in the magazine Craft Horizons several times in the 1950s, and his 'usable' sculpture for the home/office was also featured in the Good Design exhibition at MOMA in NYC in the early 1950s. This exact sculpture was featured in a retrospective show of mid century American modernist design at the Velvet da Vinci gallery in the Bay area several years ago. Cavagnaro was known for his innovative design and his adroit mix of metals with other materials such as wood. He was primarily a jewelry designer, but like many artists of his era he tried his hand in other areas as well. Although originally studio handmade in very low number multiples, I've only seen one other example of this sculpture in nearly 20 years, and it was in a different color wood base. Measures 13" tall by 15" wide by 2-1/2" deep at base. Fully signed with title at bottom as shown. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish to the metal as shown in the photos. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyer.
