For sale here is a BIG and rare set of vintage 1950s handmade copper enamel abstract modernist design cufflinks with matching tie bar designed by Jerry Fels for his company Matisse of California. Fels fought in Europe during WW2, and after the war he remained in France for a while to soak up the culture. After returning to the USA in the late 1940s, he founded a jewelry design firm with his brother-in-law in the LA area of southern California. They started with copper jewelry, naming the line after the French artist Renoir, and later added copper enamel (named Matisse), silver (Sauteur), and a short-lived line of gold-plated jewelry (also Sauteur). They didn't make a lot of jewelry for men, and it's a rare to find a complete set especially in such great shape! The cufflinks measure just under 1" wide at fronts, and the tie bar measures 1-1/4" long. All three pieces are marked "Matisse". Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
