For sale here is a HUGE and rare vintage 1970s handmade painted resin Pop Art Hippie Psychedelic brooch pin by artist/jewelery designer/sculptor Bill Schiffer. This is early work by this famous New York City-born artist who was an early proponent of the wearable art movement, and whose art and jewelry has been shown internationally at the V&A in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and has appeared in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, etc. His earliest pieces are cut from sheets of resin and hand-painted, and are often provocative and topical designs that reflect their times including references to Pop Art and Peter Max, Hippie culture, Eastern mysticism, and psychedelic art. This design is of a nude woman with legs spread with a star covering her genital area, and may speak to the controversy at the time regarding pornography and censorship and the women's movement, or could simply be a sexy design heralding the sexual revolution of the era. In any case, it's a huge statement piece that is guaranteed to provoke conversations any time you wear it! Measures 3-5/8" wide by 2-1/8" tall. Marked "Schiffer" at front, also "Schiffer 3/25/72" and copyright symbol at back as shown. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
