For sale here is an original vintage 1960s pen and ink and watercolor on artist board painting of a nude woman surrounded by lush and oversized flowers by artist and jewelry designer Stella Popowski (1931-2008), and in it's original gilt wood period frame. Original artworks by Popowski are very rare, and this is an exceptionally beautiful example of her finest work! Popowski was a jewish emigre from Poland who moved with her family to Cuba in the 1940s to escape the Nazis in Europe, and then to Mexico in the 1950s. She lived and worked in Taxco in the 1950s to mid 1960s and designed jewelry for Los Castillo, Antonio Pineda, and later for herself in her own studio. She was not a silversmith, so she designed the jewelry and had it executed by a number of master silversmiths in Taxco. In the mid-1960s she moved to California where she lived in Newport Beach, and later in the San Diego area, while concentrating on painting and design projects. This artwork measures 15" tall by 7" wide by 1-1/2" deep at outer edges of the frame, and the actual painting measures 12-1/2" by 4-3/8". Signed at front bottom right as shown in closeup. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear to the outer edges of the frame as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
