For sale here is a RARE vintage 1950s 60s handmade sterling silver and coral modernist brutalist design bolo tie by Native American master jeweler Leo Coriz (1913-1997) of the Kewa Pueblo. An exceptional and early Native American modernist design by a renowned designer and silversmith! See below for additional information about Leo Coriz. The bolo slide measures 2-1/8" by 1-1/8" wide, the handmade sterling silver terminals measure 2-1/2" long by 1/2" at widest, still on it's original braided black leather cord, and weighs 50.3 grams total. The wearable length of the bolo tie is 38", and it will easily fit over even the largest head size. Marked at back (hard to see with so much tarnish which I haven't touched), "Leo Coriz". Tested and guaranteed to be solid sterling silver. The coral pieces are bezel-set and look like they may have started out as small beads before being used in this piece. The braided leather cord shows wear but will hold up just fine with a little leather polish. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear but with lots of acquired tarnish at back which I have left for the new owner to keep or remove as they wish - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.

Leo Coriz (1913-1997) was a master jeweler from Kewa Pueblo (Santo Domingo Pueblo) . He was well-liked, and respected for his knowledge and skills in silversmithing. At one point in his life he served in the U. S. Navy, and was honored that President John F. Kennedy approved his request that he be allowed to wear his hair long. He felt this retained his Pueblo Indian heritage at the same time that he was serving his country. He is known for his work in silver often with coral and decorative 'nuggets' of silver. He was awarded many prizes over the course of his lengthy career, and was regarded as a pioneer in the modernist style amongst Native American silversmiths.
