For sale here is a HUGE vintage 1960s 70s handmade sterling silver and pluma (feathers in resin) floral Flowers design pendant on chain necklace by designer Janna Thomas of Taxco. An outstanding design by this top notch artist! Here's a short bio of the artist...
Janna Thomas was a New York City artist/designer who moved to Mexico and operated a business in Taxco for many years. Her workshop in Taxco employed skilled silversmiths trained under Spratling and Antonio to produce her exclusive designs. Customers for Janna's silver included Tiffany, Cartier, and Neiman Marcus, among others. Janna's workshop operated from 1965 until her death in 1980. The 'pluma azteca' technique of dyed feathers encapsulated in resin was invented by Chato Castillo of the Los Castillo taller, and Janna borrowed it from them for some of her most striking jewelry designs! A quick google for the artist shows that some of her sculptures for sale have asking prices in the multiple thousands, but her jewelry is still reasonably priced for the collector that recognizes great quality and design in the same item!
This pendant measures 3-1/2" long including the bail by 1-1/2" wide, and weighs a hefty 34.8 grams including the chain. It comes on an Italian sterling silver chain that measures 16" wearable length. The pendant is marked "Janna Sterling Mexico" inside the bail, and the chain is marked "Italy 925". Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
