For sale here is a RARE vintage 1950s handmade mixed metals copper and sterling silver wood-lined box with a design of dancing pre-Columbian figures at top. Laffi is sometimes referred to as the 'Spratling of Peru', in my opinion more because she was a foreign immigrant that had an outsized influence on the arts and crafts of her adopted country, and less due to any stylistic similarities. The box structure is of hammered copper with a heavy dark green patination to it, and applied at top is the cut-out design in sterling silver with incised decoration. Inside the box is lined with wood in the bottom section as shown. Measures 7-1/4" by 4" by 1" high, and weighs a hefty 457.7 grams or 14.71 troy ounces. Marked on the sterling section as shown, "G. Laffi Peru 925". Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
