Hungarian Couple in Traditional Matyó Dress
13” dolls with hand painted papier mache heads and firmly stuffed, hand stitched cloth bodies with pin-hinged limbs. This couple features the vividly distinctive folk costume and embroidery of the Matyó community in north-eastern Hungary.
These come from a large collection of international dolls procured by a prolific traveler ca. 1940s and 50s.
In excellent, display ready condition. Some markings on the papier mache faces, a couple of small holes the boy doll’s head. The wear certainly doesn’t detract from their charm. Please see photos for details.
