Offering this exceptionally well done portrait of an Indian man by the highly collected artist G. D. ThyagaRaj, sometimes given as G. D. Thyaga Raj. His initials are often confused as M.D. or A. D Thyagaraj. He was the youngest of three brothers who are all well known Indian painters. Born in 1930 in Kodiakanal, India. His brother Arul Raj wrote a well known book on painting techniques. Their family home was in Kodaikanal in Southern India. All three brothers studied at the Madras College of Arts.
This work is rare in that it is a portrait rather than the artist's more typical street scenes. This work measures 12 5/8 by 19 1/4 inches, offered unframed. Nice bold signature by the artist in the lower right corner. Executed on very heavy high quality watercolour paper. Condition is very good with no noted problems.
An excellent opportunity to add a quality example of this artist's work to your collection. You will not be disappointed.
