This print is signed with initials in the plate, lower left. The plate area measures 12 7/8 by 9 3/8 inches (plate) and 21 1/4 by 18 3/4 inches (approx mat size). Note: this print is offered unframed, mounted to a piece of cardboard backing, and matted. Condition is very good. As stated above, the print has been mounted to a piece of cardboard. The paper is stable with no significant stains or discoloration. Strong regionalist influence. An excellent WPA print for the discriminating collector.
(from AskArt) Allan F. Thomas was born on February 15, 1902 in Jackson, MI. He studied in England and France as well as in the United States. His murals include the Upjohn School in Kalamazoo, MI, St. John's Church, the Radio Station WIBM, and Jackson High School (all in Jackson, MI). His Works Progress Administration (WPA) murals include the U.S. Post Office in Crystal Falls, MI; the U.S. Post Office in Clare, MI, and the U.S. Post Office in Wabasha, MN, the Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, MI and the State Prison in Southern Michigan. He was registered in the Michigan Federal Art Project. Thomas died in July 1974 in Stevens Point, WI.
