An original Oil on artists canvas board of a still life by the collected Louisville, Kentucky, artist Nellie Schanzenbacher. This work measures 16 x 8 inches and is signed in the lower right corner and dated 1911. The painting is in very good condition and is offered in the original period frame. A stamp on the back states this painting was cleaned and restored in 1981 at a studio in Madison, Indiana. A very charming still life sure to be cherished for years to come.
Schanzenbacher was a Louisville native was active in the local art scene from the 1920s through the 1940s. She was a prize-winning painter and muralist studied with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri at the Art Students League in New York. (Her last name is sometimes given as Schanzenbachler. She was a member of the Southern States Art League and exhibited at the Speed Museum and the Kentucky Federation of Arts.
