A stunning original landscape, oil pastels on paper, by the WPA artist Edward A. Fern (1909-?). His name is sometimes given as Edward Firn. This particular painting measures 18 x 24 inches and is presented in its original period frame with backing intact. Signed and dated 1955 in the lower left corner. Both painting and frame are in very good condition with no condition problems noted. A masterful rendering of an interior forest scene with waterfall. A very pleasing painting to view. Simple, yet elegant. An excellent example of this WPA artist's best work. Fern is best known as a Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky artist. He is listed in most major art reference volumes.
Fern was born in Milford, OH and lived in Amelia, OH. He studied at the famous Cincinnati Art Academy (Art Academy of Cincinnati). He has works in the US Post Office in Pineville, KY, as well as numerous private collections. He was a WPA muralist
