Offering this exceptionally well done and very rare lacquer panels (mixed media) by Vietnamese Swiss artist Tran Phuc Duyen (b. Hanoi 1923, d. Switzerland 1993). Each panel is signed by the artist in the lower right. Each of the panels has amazingly detailed work looking to consist of various materials including mother of pearl. Both are truly remarkable examples of this Asian art form.
Each of the panels measure approximately 7.5 (w) by 11.5 (h) inches. The exact age of the panels is unknown, but given their appearance they appear to be at least 50 years old. Please note that due to she highly reflective surfaces of the panels there are minor reflections in the photos.
The condition of the panels is overall very good with some minor chips along the edges and light scratches on the surfaces. Note the panel of the right has some lacquer loss along the left edge, but does not detract significantly from the piece (see photo). These examples feature a religious motif of Madonna and Child and were perhaps intended to decorate a church. Works by the artist are rare and seldom seen offered for sale. Both panels are being sold as a pair.
An excellent addition to any Vietnam or Eastern art themed collection. Tran Phuc Duyen is a listed artist and is included in most major art reference volumes.
