Made in France, this vintage Hermes silk scarf "Les Cavaliers d'Or" was commissioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and designed by Vladimir Rybaltchenko in 1975.
The truly gorgeous and rich design was inspired by the gold jewelry of ancient Scythia and because of its popularity was later re-edited in 1992. Given the excellent quality of the silk and the wear of the scarf, I believe this piece is part of the 1992 re-edition.
The silk is wonderfully heavy and soft to the touch. The field color is that of a warm caramel and the second photograph is perhaps the one that captures best its tone. With the warm chocolate border, it is one of the richest combinations for this design around! The surface was carefully inspected and cleaned is delivered without a box.
This scarf was pre-owned and as such there are a couple tiny pulled threads, which are not clearly visible. Please look at the last couple photographs in which I have placed pins with puny heads for scale. The scarf measures about 35" by 35".
If you do give this scarf to a dry cleaner, please give them instructions to not iron the hand rolled edges so they remain plump.
