23" (58 cm.) A bisque-headed doll with blue glass eyes, mohair lashes, brush-stroked brows and lashes, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, dimpled chin, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, carton torso and metal-hinged paper mache legs in bent seated pose, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, is seated upon a wooden stool, holding her own little bisque-headed doll in one hand and a fancily carved bone rattle in the other hand. When wound, a series of movements occur: she turns her head from side to side while her eyes blink, and alternately (in sync with head movements) lifts her doll as though appearing to give her a kiss, or lifts and shakes the rattle. Meanwhile her right leg lifts and taps, and music plays. Condition: IS generally excellent. Marks: L.B. (key) 1300-7 Dep S&H (doll). Comments: Leopold Lambert, Paris, circa 1895, with original studio costuming by Eugenie Lambert. Value Points: superb and luxurious all-original automaton, the little girl wearing lavish silk and lace costume, and with wonderful well-functioning movements and music.
