Northern Mannerist bronze of a bearded Poseidon (Neptune) ruling the sea, early 17th century. The god stands with his left hand raised (trident missing) as if holding a sceptre over the waters, a dolphin at his feet. Physical tension is created with the force of this gesture and the strong turn to dexter and lower body twist. Reddish-brown patina. Unmounted.

CONDITION: Very good. Patina rubbed in some areas. Trident missing. Joint between two sections of arm is visible, as is sometimes seen on pieces of this period. This is neither a break nor a crack, merely a join. See photo.
