Superb 19th century pair of English Bargeware foot stools paint-decorated in the traditional style of stylized roses and romanticized castles. A naïve castle landscape adorns the seat, and elaborate stylized roses are painted on the sideboards. The dedication to “William Stanley F. Andrews” appears on the apron of one stool and to “Jane Andrews” on the apron of the other.
Original paint decoration and normal wear. Puppy-chewed corners. Age-related shrinkage crack in the sideboard of one stool. Solid and structurally sound. No restoration.
Size: 13 ¾” x 9” seat. 8 ½” height.
