Early 20th century Balkan ethnographic woman’s folk costume apron. This one originates from Serbia, but it is akin to other aprons worn across the Balkan region. Hand-loomed on a small narrow household loom from homespun wool weft and cotton warp and sewn by hand from 2 pieces of textile. Hand-embroidered multi-colored floral geometric pattern at the ends, and neatly executed blue and green stripes throughout. This is likely to have formed part of a dowry – it is unworn and in excellent original and clean condition.
Width is 23”. Length is 28 ½”.
