English Huntley & Palmers shop display biscuits tin with glass top, c.1930s - 50s. Large storage tin with a tin-lithographed and hinged lidded frame with glass top. The glass lid allowed the customer to peek at the contents inside the tins, and this one also has a wire price card holder inside the lid. The lid is hinged at the front so that when opened the advertising is in upright view for the customer. The lid frame is removable and interchangeable with different biscuits tins - the biscuits were presumably pre-packaged in the tin boxes, and the lids for various biscuit brands added to opened tins by the shopkeeper. Shop storage tins were available for various biscuits brands, and were often displayed on shelves or counter-tops. This one is stamped underneath for Crawfords (biscuits).
Very good condition with normal and age-related wear to tin and lithographs.
Size: 8 ½” x 9”. Height is 10 ½”.
