19th century pair of German natural history / zoology teaching cards. These engraved prints rendered in detail, feature bears and a raccoon in one, and pigs, a tapir and hippopotamus in the other, in beautifully subdued tones. Mounted on pressed board and labeled in both German and Latin with the occasional handwritten annotation in Cyrillic. Visually interesting with decorative appeal that lies in their aged and worn appearance. They are not pristine, but tattered, stained, yellowed, and with dog-eared corners, as shown. These can be hung from their original holes at the top. Size: 16” x 12 ¾”.
