Pair of 1920s Soviet-era Russian cloth dolls in peasant folk costume and with finely hand-painted facial features. Both retain their sewn tags (see images), with detailed craftsmanship evident in the sewing and construction of these dolls. They are strangely beautiful for what they have become, despite the now faded and yellowed colors. A glimpse of what the original, and once vibrant colors must have looked like is offered underneath sections of clothing that hadn’t come into as much direct contact with sunlight (see images). The print on the tags is partially legible with “Foreign Made Ukrainian Woman” printed on the tag for the female doll, and “Willage Boy” on the male doll. Condition is as shown in the images.
Sizes:15” and 14 ½” tall.
Dolls can be purchased separately for $275 plus shipping.
