19th century pair of German natural history / zoology teaching cards. These engraved prints are in sequence (XXII and XXIII), and feature gamebirds that includes varieties of Partridge, Grouse, Guinea fowl, Pheasants, Peafowl Wild Turkey, as well as the domestic cockerel. Printed in both German and Latin, with the occasional annotation handwritten in Cyrillic.
These come in their original condition, mounted on pressed board and are well used, aged and yellowed in appearance with tatty corners. It is precisely their aged appearance that makes these decoratively appealing. The colors are however, well preserved. These can be hung from their original holes at the top. Size: 16” x 12 ¾”.
