Vintage English “Brocklehurst-Whiston Amalgamated Ltd” silk yarn dyer’s color chart “Pure Spun Silk Colour Card”, dated 8th July, 1937. The company was based at Hurdsfield Mills in the north of England and produced “Quality Spun Silk” in a range of colors that were suitable for “use in the manufacture of Dress Goods, Handkerchiefs, Scarves and general use”. The book would have been issued to the trade and is a beautiful, fold-out color swatch book that presents yarn as tassels in several color ranges with a total of 86 shades. This is an interesting industrial reference catalogue that comes in very good, vintage condition. The samples were once interleafed with wax paper, but only one of these wax sheets remains. Some samples were directly taken from the card, as noted by the fact that portions of some tassels were cut. The catalogue is covered in dark green taffeta cloth. There is wear to the spine, and there is foxing on the pages. Size: Hardcover measures 6 ½”x 9 ¼” when folded up.
