SMALL English galvanized oval wash tub and Persil detergent scoop, c.1900. Oval galvanized metal tubs were produced in a large range of sizes to accommodate a wide range of bath and wash-up needs -this one being one of the smallest sizes that was available, and would have been useful for the laundering of delicate laces and handkerchiefs. Constructed from heavy galvanized steel with old-fashioned seamed construction for the base and sides, and riveted handles. It is also beautifully patinated and comes in cleaned and preserved condition. Included with the wash tub is the miniature Persil laundry detergent tub -a promotional advertising piece that functioned as a scoop or measure. The Persil tub is also metal and retains its original paint with signs of normal wear.
