19th century Continental pewter lavabo / fountain with an indistinct touch mark on the lid, possibly French or Belgian. Decorative with an attractively aged patina, the set comprises a barrel-shaped reservoir with a grotesque mask at the spigot base, and a demi-lune basin with a high backsplash and ornate handles. Both pieces were designed to be hung. Alternatively, the reservoir could be placed atop a shelf -on an ornately carved wall sconce, or something similar- with the basin placed on a counter or table top, for an equally attractive display. Both pieces come in excellent, well preserved condition with normal wear commensurate with the age and function of the piece. Items are heavy. No restoration.
Size: Basin: 10” x 11”. Depth is 4 ½”. Height of backsplash is 11 ½”. Reservoir: 12” in height. Maximum length from the back hook to the spigot is 10”. Circumference with back hook is 21”.
