Antique English brass chemist’s apothecary mortar and pestle, mid-late 18th century. A heavy cast brass mortar and pestle with an incised banding pattern and very nice old wear, especially on the pestle. It comes in cleaned and polished condition. Slight variation in the alloy color exists between the mortar and pestle to suggest that they might not be a “true” pair. However, the curvature of the pestle fits the curve of the mortar bottom suggesting that they are either an original pair, or in the very least, that they have existed as a pair for a considerable period of time.
Mortar size: 4” high, 5” in diameter at the top and 3 ¾” diameter at the base. Pestle is 7 ¼” long.
