SMALL 19th century French glass cloche: Blown, green-glass, garden cloche with an applied, solid-glass knob handle, and upturned base rim. Originally used to shelter young plants from frost, this particular example is considerably smaller in size to a melon cloche. Visually pleasing, is its unique and irregular form, together with its weathered appearance, that pertains to its exposure to the elements - such as hard water- over time. The look is a venerable one, and decorative left as is. There are also pronounced striations and bubbles in the glass.
Condition: Excellent original antique condition with normal usage-related wear. A couple of small air-bubbles that formed close to the surface interior had “flaked” resulting in very slight roughness to the touch – this is considered to be a minor flaw. No chips.
Size: 11 ½” base diameter and 13” height to knob.
