19th century French food press: A superb tabletop press comprising a fruitwood stand, with a monogrammed white ceramic bowl and disc plunger. The “AM” monogram is transfer-printed in green lettering underneath the glaze, on both the bowl and plunger. The top of the disc plunger is unglazed as is the underside of the bowl. The bowl also retains its original tinned metal insert strainer. When filled, the disc would be placed on top of the food contents, and the two-handled screw rotated downwards onto the disc plunger, expelling the juices.
It comes in superb, well-preserved, antique condition. Excellent structural condition with normal wear. There are no chips or cracks on the ceramic components.
Size: Stand base: 12” x 6 ¾”. Stand height: 12”. Maximum height of stand to the screw handles when the plunger is completely screwed in, is 17 ½”.
