Superb, SMALL antique English brass and tinned steel dairy milk or cream can, c.1900. This lovely little can holds slightly more than a HALF PINT in volume and was originally used for hand servings of milk or cream directly dispensed from a churn that was carted around on a horse-drawn cart, and delivered from door-to-door. These cans were the property of the local dairy – this one belonged to Englemere Farm (stamped inside the lid)– and milk sold by that dairy, was dispensed into the can. The can is beautifully made –it is constructed from heavy tinned steel with brass hardware, and has a thick brass wire, bale handle. The brass lid clasp allowed for the addition of a small padlock so that the contents maybe locked.
Condition: Excellent, antique condition with a clean interior and wonderful patina.
Size: 4 ¾” high. Base diameter is 2 ¾”. Lid diameter is 2 3/8”.
