Antique pair of scythes in their wooden carrier, Bulgarian, c.1900. Fabulous pair of harvesting scythes housed in a hand-hewn primitive, t-form wooden holder that retains its superb, original dark blue paint. The scythes would have been carried to the field in their holder, and stored hung on a barn wall when they were not in use. They each have serrated steel blades with oak handles. Both blades have stamped (indiscernible) marks and the handle of one, bears hand-carved initials in Cyrillic script. A beautifully preserved example of antique farm tools.
Condition: Excellent original antique condition with honest wear commensurate with that of a working farm tool. Structurally sound. Original paint. No restoration.
Size: Holder measures 19 ½” x 19 ½”
