Mid-19th century, English brewer’s wood grain shovel. Hand-hewn from a single piece of elm log, with notched markings on the base of the handle. It has superb coloration and is a beautifully tactile object. It comes in excellent, antique condition. There are signs of normal wear including partial loss of the metal brace around the rim of the bowl, and a very tight shrinkage-related crack in the bowl, as shown. Structurally sound and sturdy. It can be hung for display purposes.
Size: 42 ½” in length. Bowl is 9 ¼” wide at its widest point and 4” deep.
