Hemp sheets; Serbian, early 20th century. Excellent pair of natural fiber sheets, that were hand-loomed from fine homespun hemp yarn. Hemp cloth was traditionally loomed on small narrow looms, and the sheets were always sewn up using three pieces of a bolt. The sheets have lightened in color naturally over the years, through normal washing and are unbleached; the facing side is oatmeal-colored, whilst the reverse side is more straw-colored (as shown in last image). Hemp is very durable fiber that is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The textile is fairly crisp, and both sheets drape beautifully. Suitable as window coverings, table cloths or coverlets.
Condition: Excellent, and clean. Recently laundered and ready to use.
Sizes: Sheet 1 is 1.3m x 1.9m (1.4yd x 2.07yd). Sheet 2 is 1.27m x 1.97m (1.38yd x 2.15yd).
